Dr Lie-Liang Yang

Dr. Lie-Liang Yang received his B.Eng. degree in communication engineering rom Shanghai TieDao University, Shanghai, China in 1988, and his M.Eng, h.D. degrees in communications and electronics from Northern Jiaotong niversity, Beijing, China in 1991 and 1997, respectively. From June 1997 to December 1997 he was a visiting scientist of the Institute of Radio ngineering and Electronics, Academy of Sciences of the Czech Republic. Since December 1997, he has been with the Communications Research Group, School of Electronics and Computer Science, University of Southampton, U.K, where he was first a Postdoctoral Research Fellow (Dec. 1997 - Aug. 2002), then a Lecturer (Sept. 2002 - Feb. 2006), and currently holds the academic post of Readership. Dr. Yang's research has covered a wide range of areas in wireless communications and signal processing for wireless communications, which include error control coding, modulation and demodulation, spread-spectrum communications, orthogonal frequency-division multiplexing (OFDM) and multicarrier code-division multiple-access (CDMA), channel estimation and prediction, multiuser detection and multiuser transmitter preprocessing, space-time processing, wireless networking, as well as wideband, broadband and ultrawide bandwidth CDMA systems. He has published over 150 papers in journals and conference proceedings, co-authored one book and published several book chapters. He was awarded the Royal Society Sino-British Fellowship in 1997 and the EPSRC Research Fellowship in 1998. Dr. Yang is currently an associate editor for both the Journal of Communications and Networks (JCN) and the Journal of Communications (JCM).

Prof. Sheng Chen
Sheng Chen obtained a BEng degree in control engineering from the East China Petroleum Institute in 1982, and a PhD degree in control engineering from the City University at London in 1986. He joined the University of Southampton in September 1999. He previously held research and academic appointments at the Universities of Sheffield, Edingburgh and Portsmouth. Dr Chen is a Senior Member of IEEE in the USA. His recent research works include adaptive nonlinear signal processing, modelling and identification of nonlinear systems, neural network research, finite-precision digital controller design, evolutionary computation methods and optimization.
