Wideband Speech Coding Standardization Activities

The current standard for wideband speech coding is the G.722 coder , which operates at 48, 56 and 64 kbit/s. ITU-T is in the process of standardizing wideband speech coding at 16, 24 and 32 kbit/s. Two modes of coders are being considered. Mode A is intended for general use, and will support multiple encodings which require low-delay. Mode B requires a low complexity but allows a higher delay, which is acceptable for point-to-point links. For the latest information, please go to SG16 ftp site
